Ceviche de Camarones
Ceviche is a popular dish all throughout Latin America, and perhaps the most iconic version of the dish is the Peruvian ceviche, which is made from raw fish that is marinated in citrus juices and served with various toppings. However, while Peruvian ceviche is undoubtedly delicious, it is not the only way to prepare this refreshing and zesty dish.
In fact, there are countless variations of ceviche, each with their unique flavors, textures, and ingredients. One such variation is the Spanish-style ceviche de camarones, which is made with cooked shrimp, rather than raw fish. This dish is particularly popular in coastal regions of Spain and is a delicious and nutritious option for seafood lovers.
The key to a great ceviche is using the highest quality, freshest ingredients possible. For this recipe, we recommend using large, juicy shrimp that have been cooked to perfection. In addition to the shrimp, you will need some fresh herbs and vegetables, such as cilantro, red onion, and tomato, as well as some citrus fruits, particularly lime and lemon juice.
To make the ceviche, you will start by preparing the shrimp. The goal here is not to overcook them, as they will need to marinate in the citrus juices later on. We recommend steaming the shrimp for just a few minutes until they turn pink and are fully cooked. Then, let the shrimp cool down before you start preparing the marinade.
The marinade is where the magic happens. In a large mixing bowl, combine the lime and lemon juice with some olive oil, garlic, and salt. Stir everything together until the salt is fully dissolved, and the flavors are well combined. Then, add the red onion and tomato to the bowl and stir everything together. This will help to create a flavorful base for the ceviche.
Once the marinade is done, it’s time to add the cooked shrimp. Simply add the shrimp to the bowl and stir everything together until the shrimp is fully coated in the marinade. Then, let the ceviche sit in the refrigerator for at least an hour. During this time, the citrus juices will work their magic on the shrimp, infusing them with flavor and creating a mouthwatering dish.
When you’re ready to serve your ceviche de camarones, garnish it with some fresh cilantro and sliced avocado. You can also serve it with tortilla chips or on a bed of lettuce for a healthier option. This dish is perfect for a summer day when you want something refreshing and light, but still packed with flavor and nutrition.
Overall, Spanish ceviche is a delicious and simple seafood dish that is perfect for any occasion. Whether you’re looking for a quick and easy appetizer, or a light and flavorful main meal, ceviche de camarones is sure to satisfy your cravings. So, start gathering your ingredients and get ready to impress your friends and family with this delicious and authentic Spanish recipe.
