Ingredients:
1 cup of split yellow lentils (moong dal) 4 cups water 1 tbsp oil 1 tsp cumin seeds 1 medium onion chopped 2 medium tomatoes chopped 1 tbsp ginger garlic paste 1/2 tsp turmeric powder 1/2 tsp red chilli powder 1/2 tsp garam masala Salt to taste Coriander leaves for garnish
Method:
- Rinse the moong dal in water until the water runs clear.
- In a pressure cooker or a deep pot, add the moong dal and 4 cups of water. Cook on medium heat until the dal is soft and mushy.
- In a separate pan, heat the oil and add cumin seeds. Fry until the seeds start to splutter.
- Add the chopped onions and fry until golden brown.
- Add the ginger garlic paste and fry for a minute.
- Add the chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, and garam masala. Cook until the tomatoes are soft and mushy.
- Add the cooked moong dal to the tomato mixture and mix well.
- Add salt to taste.
- Simmer the dal for 5 minutes until it thickens.
- Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or roti.
