Shrimp Scampi
New England Shrimp Scampi is a classic dish made with succulent shrimp, juicy tomatoes, and fresh herbs, all sautéed in a garlicky butter sauce. This dish is a delicious and sophisticated addition to any dinner table, and it’s perfect for any occasion, from a romantic dinner for two to a casual family meal.
The origin of Shrimp Scampi is debatable, with some saying it is an Italian dish, while others claim that it is an American invention. Nevertheless, the dish has become a favorite in kitchens worldwide. This recipe is inspired by New England cuisine, with regional ingredients like fresh butter, sweet shrimp, and plump tomatoes.
The star of the dish, of course, is the shrimp, and in this recipe, we use only wild-caught shrimp from the Gulf of Maine. Shrimp from this area are famous for their sweet, succulent meat, and are a favorite ingredient in many New England seafood dishes. For this recipe, we use large, peeled and deveined shrimp, which are sautéed in a buttery garlic sauce until pink and opaque.
Along with the shrimp, we add fresh tomatoes, for a juicy sweetness that complements the shrimp’s savory flavor. We recommend using a sweet variety of tomato, like cherry or grape tomatoes, for the best results.
To give the dish its signature garlic flavor, we use freshly minced garlic, sautéed in butter until fragrant. The aroma of garlic and butter cooking together is heavenly, and it’s what makes this dish so irresistible.
To balance out the dish’s rich and savory flavors, we add a touch of freshness with chopped parsley and lemon juice. These flavorful finishing touches add brightness and zing to the dish, making it a well-rounded and delicious meal.
Overall, New England Shrimp Scampi is a perfect meal for anyone who loves seafood, garlic, and a touch of sophistication. It’s a dish that’s sure to impress your guests, but it’s also easy enough to make that you can enjoy it any time. Serve it with some crusty bread to soak up all the garlicky butter sauce, and you’re ready to savor the flavors of New England seafood cuisine right in your own kitchen.
